During the process of redoing the landscaping, many decisions were made that would focus on low maintenance, low water consumption, low maintenance, beauty, and low maintenance. I didn't want to be mowing, raking, and working in the yard because it was required. I love working in my yard, but I want it on my own terms. Puttering with the plants is a form of meditation for me, but I want to quit when I've had enough.

Decisions about which plants to keep and which plants had to go were made based on their ability to fit into the plan. The plan was created by the wonderfully talented Kat Weiss (
http://www.kwlanddesign.com/). It included drought-tolerant plants, hardscape plans, and thoughtful design.
Some plants were kept for sentimental reasons. Camellias and roses to name a few.

Two yellow rose bushes were moved from the front yard to a corner of the backyard that would receive extra water. Most of the yard gets very little extra watering. All of the thirstier plants were moved to a bed that would get watered more often.
The potted cactus collection needed a home.
